Trinity Rodman's goal—Is she the next big thing in women's soccer?

USWNT kept a strong foot in the Paris Olympics 2024. The Stars and Stripes secured a remarkable 3-0 win over Group B rivals Zambia to successfully clinch the crucial three points. While ardent fans buzz with joy over the dominating performance from Emma Hayes’ side, it’s Trinity Rodman who has stolen the spotlight with her clever strike, making Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian go head over heels.

Dennis Rodman’s daughter stepped up for her nation in a perfect way, breaking the deadlock within 17 minutes. The USWNT began their buildup from the halfway line, with Sophia Smith dribbling near the touchline. She passed to Lindsey Horan, who made a nice set for Trinity Rodman inside the penalty box. Though Zambian defender Martha Tembo and midfielder Hellen Chanda tried to block the Washington Spirit forward, Rodman did the unthinkable.

She made a brilliant turn between both players by defending the ball with the instep of her right foot and then neatly tucked it into the back of the net. This goal made the internet and even sent the netizens in disbelief and interestingly, caught the eye of Alexis Ohanian. He retweeted Rodman’s exceptional strike with a ‘👀’ emoji by also tagging her. The reaction from the Reddit owner clearly suggests that he too was impressed by the 22-year-old’s efforts and we reckon after seeing the goal, you would have too.

The beauty of the goal even makes you think for a moment that you are witnessing a Brazilian masterclass. But we can assure you that this is a goal scored by the very homegrown talent of American soil. While the competition is still underway, it by far remains the best goal of the tournament. However, Trinity wasn’t alone in turning heads on the pitch tonight!

While Trinity Rodman impresses with her brilliant goal, Mallory Swanson etches her name in history books

After Dennis Rodman’s daughter opened the account for the USWNT in the 17th minute, Mallory Swanson too turned into a beast, scoring the second goal for the ladies at the 24-minute mark, again adding a third for the USA in the following minute. Interestingly, per OptaJack, Swanson’s two goals within 66 seconds are the fastest in USWNT history.

With her latest feat, the Portland Thorns forward has successfully surpassed the previous record set by Carli Lloyd, which the USWNT icon had set at 2 minutes 19 seconds, contributing to Jill Ellis’ team securing the 2015 World Cup with a 5-2 victory over Japan. Regardless, it was quite a show that Emma Hayes and Co. put on today.
