“So Ignorant to the Broader World”- Serena Williams’ Husband Once Opened Up About His Riveting Relationship With Soccer Before Owning a $100 Million Team

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian are affecting soccer in the United States like no non-soccer background couple ever did. Angel City FC in NWSL is a pinnacle of equality and the rising popularity of women’s soccer in the country. The majority of the ownership group members are female, including Serena Williams and 5 years old Olympia. Serena had tweeted about USWNT and female soccer players going back more than five years ago. However, what about Alexis Ohanian?

About a year and a half ago, Alexis appeared on a podcast and talked about his history with the game. He also talked about being in such an important position in the club and how soccer is taking over her family.

Alexis Ohanian talked about his relationship with soccer

While talking about soccer and his days before becoming super rich after co-founding Reddit and marrying tennis legend Serena Williams. He revealed that he used to play soccer but somehow was ignorant of the vast impact of the sport. He also talked about how he feels now since he is the principal investor of the most famous and talked about a club in NWSL.

In the Grant Wahl podcast Alexis said, “You know, for all those years, I just played soccer because it was like a fun thing for us to do and mostly goalie and defense. I wasn’t great at it but, I was good enough to stick with it and have fun with it. But I was like I said, so ignorant to the broader world and if it weren’t for like FIFA on the Sega Genesis… That was probably my strongest touch point to the global sport. This has been an amazing learning opportunity for me to revisit so much about the sport.“

The sport has created a lasting impact on not only Alexis but on the whole family. I mean, they had talked about Olympia playing soccer professionally.

Olympia is just 5 years old, and there are countless articles about her being ‘naturally gifted for soccer’. Although Alexis stated that she also plays tennis a fair amount of times and it is 50-50 at the moment.
