As the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup approaches, fans are getting excited. Everyone is looking ahead to the prestigious tournament but the USWNT seems more pumped. Particularly the players, who will be playing their first major tournament. Be it Washington Spirit star Trinity Rodman or Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian’s Angel City FC star, Alyssa Thompson.
The World Cup is indeed special for such upcoming stars as they look to make the best first impression. Especially for Thompson, who recently spoke about her selection in the World Cup roster.

This year’s World Cup roster consists of a well-balanced team of both youngsters and veterans. While it will be the same for the likes of Alex Morgan or Megan Rapinoe, for youngsters like Thompson, it will be different. Recently, the 18-year-old starlet spoke her mind after making it to the roster.
As stated by a Twitter handle, the Angel City star said, “I missed my graduation but I’m going to the World Cup, so it’s give and take. It’s honestly crazy to me because it was just two weeks ago that I graduated.” It is to be noted that Thompson, aged 18 just got graduated just two weeks ago.
She also revealed missing her graduation day, but isn’t remorseful about it, as she is heading to the World Cup. The ACFC star is proud to represent her country on such a big occasion. Indeed, Thompson seems more than motivated for the upcoming tournament. However, before heading to World Cup, she’ll be looking to leave her domestic season on a good note as her side is struggling a bit.
Angel City continues to struggle in NWSL
Serena William’s soccer franchise had high hopes before they kicked off the new season. However, things went downhill as they are currently suffering a lot in the NWSL. The ACFC is currently sitting in 10th place with just 12 points in hand. The poor form even forced them to sack the team’s head coach, Freya Coombe.

Under Coombe, they managed to get a winless streak for six games. However, that ended last week with a win against San Diego Waves. It may have given them a relief but there’s still unfinished business left for them. ACFC’s next fixture is against Houston Dash and they will be looking to maintain the momentum under assistant coach Becki Tweed.
