Laureus Sports Award is one of the significant individual awards given to athletes every year since 2000. The award has different categories, including Sportsman of the Year and Breakthrough of the Year. The award ceremony took place in Paris recently, and Lionel Messi and Carlos Alcaraz were the winners in different categories.

Messi won the Sportsman of the Year and was the primary attraction at the ceremony. The attention that the Argentine garnered left Carlos Alcaraz in awe. Alcaraz, who won the Breakthrough of the Year, wanted to meet Messi. It didn’t happen at first, as the reporters surrounded the World Cup winner. Alcaraz said“It’s crazy,” while speaking to the press after seeing the reporters intercepting the Argentine again and again.

“I did not have the opportunity to meet him. It is incredible to be just a few meters from him. He is really very crazy, I wish I could shake his hand,” Alcaraz said. However, his wish did come true, as he was able to shake hands with the PSG superstar and he also had a small discussion with the Argentine. 

Messi added another trophy to his cabinet

With a very successful World Cup fete, Messi added another individual trophy to his cabinet. Before this, he won the Laureus award for individual performance in 2020 and with the national team, as Argentina won the Team of the Year for the World Cup campaign.
