The Spaniard has been on the sidelines since the start of the season owing to injury woes. Despite being off-court, Nadal still stirred up controversy after his recent comments on the Messi vs Ronaldo debate.

The Spaniard took photos with a group of fans when they posed a controversial question. A fan asked Nadal who is better according to him – Messi or Ronaldo?

Surprisingly, the 22-single Grand Slam champion picked the Argentinian over Cr7 despite being a true blue Madridsta. The Spaniard instantly justified his pick by saying he is a Madrid fan and it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to support Cr7.

“Messi is better, but I am a Real Madrid fan,” clarified Nadal. While technically Nadal is right, only time will tell how fellow Madridstas will take this news. After all, Messi is undeniably the greatest Barcelona player. Nevertheless, the Spaniard holds another revered soccer personality as his favorite player.

Rafael Nadal reserves another name as his favorite player

Back in 2020, speaking to Celebrity Magazine, Rafael Nadal was quipped about who is the best between Leo and Cr7. While Rafa answered the query diplomatically by choosing them both, he, however, went on to reveal that his favorite player is Brazilian Ronaldo.

“Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the best nowadays, but for me the best of all is Brazilian Ronaldo Luiz Nazario da Lima. I met him when my uncle [Miguel Angel Nadal] was playing for Barcelona and I can say he was fantastic, he is a wonderful guy” Rafa explained.
