After Kissing Scandal at Global Event, Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian Joins Megan Rapinoe in Supporting World Champion’s Decision

Spain has won the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, and yet their historic win has been marred with controversy.  The Spanish Football President, Luis Rubiales, cast a dark shadow over celebrations after he unsolicitedly kissed one of the players during the presentation ceremony.

Many players and individuals have come out in support of the player, Jenni Hermoso, and the Spanish Women’s team. Also, Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian recently took to social media where he shared a story to express his views. The Spanish team has made it clear that they won’t represent the country until the president resigns, with the team’s opinion being supported by Team USA’s Megan Rapinoe.

Spanish Football President Luis Rubiales has created a huge controversy by unsolicitedly kissing Jenni Hermoso during the post-match presentation. While Rubiales had apologized for his actions, he has refused to admit fault claiming the kiss was mutual. Jenni Hermoso in her recent statement has made it clear that the kiss was not mutual.

Rubiales’ actions have not gone unnoticed as multiple players across the world have criticized his actions. Alexis Ohanian, the husband of Tennis legend Serena Williams, shared a story on his Instagram profile that saw him share Hermoso’s words from an interview.

FIFA has already set up an investigative team to take action against Luis Rubiales. However, despite his early apology, it seems like the President has refused to admit fault and resign from his position.

Drama ensues as Luis Rubiales refuses to resign

Things have been looking bleak for Spanish Football President Luis Rubiales. However, the federation president has refused to back down from his position. In a recent statement, Rubiales claimed that the players were spreading out lies about him and he would not go down.

The Spanish government has made it clear that they plan on removing Rubiales from his position. However, while the government cannot directly interfere, the head of the state-run Sports Council, Victor Francos, had made it clear that they will do all in their power to get Rubiales out of office.

A horde of fans was seen outside the Spanish Federation’s office in Madrid. Fans have been demeaning for Rubiales to resign from his position. However, with the President refusing to back down from his position, we could see the issue drag on for the coming weeks.
