Inter Miami announced a massive unveiling event on July 16. It’s no secret as fans anticipate the presentation of Lionel Messi with his former teammate Sergio Busquets. However, there’s also a surprising element after the club’s co-owner Jorge Mas flirted with a few big-name signings recently.
Amid all the speculations and excitement over Messi’s presentation, the Argentine received a setback. Despite his World Cup heroics, Messi failed to bag The Best at EPSYs Awards 2023. And guess who trumped him to the award? Yes, NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes won it ahead of the Argentine.

It has been a season of some best individual performances. ESPYs awards the best athletes and teams every year. After they rolled out nominations for the Best Male Athlete, it was clear that voters would have an uphill task. And why not? The nomination list included Lionel Messi, Patrick Mahomes, Nikola Jokic, and Aaron Judge.

Every single athlete came at the back of scintillating performances for their teams. But it was $70 million worth of Mahomes, who had the last laugh. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback had an unforgettable season. His heroics led to the Chiefs’ comeback win in the Super Bowl. Mahomes won NFL and Super Bowl MVP. He finished leader in passing yards (5250), passing touchdowns (41), offensive yards (5614), and offensive touchdowns (45).
Mahomes got nominated for Best NFL Player and won that award, too. Also, the Chiefs won the Best Team award. Meanwhile, $600 million worth of Messi won two awards at ESPYs, despite losing out on the crucial accolade to the Chiefs’ quarterback. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner won it for the Best Soccer player. He also got his hands on the Best Championship Performance for his FIFA World Cup final heroics against France. Despite losing out to Mahomes, the Argentine is preparing to embark on his new journey in the US.
Finally, it’s Messi time in the US
Fans were eagerly waiting for the Argentine wizard’s presentation as a Miami player. And finally, the date has arrived. As David Beckham and Inter Miami announced, the unveiling will be on July 16. But the hopes of the fans are high for the presentation.
