Would you delay your wedding for the Super Bowl, or is love the ultimate priority?

“Forever always meant with you,” wrote Sophia Smith and Michael Wilson in an Instagram post, revealing their engagement earlier this summer. After six years of being through thick and thin, the two lovebirds are closer than ever to officially tie the knot. However, the couple may want to reconsider making pre-arrangements for their big day, as they might be forced to ‘push it back for the Super Bowl.’

Yes, even for the fact that they will be tying the knot a the house through just a small ceremony of not more than 30. That’s surely one big nightmare for any couple—no, not the Super Bowl coinciding with their wedding, but literally anything in the world that might clash with the auspicious day that unites two people forever. Then again, this is a matter of national-cum-football importance, where Wilson may have a chance to be a part of the Super Bowl qualification journey with his team, the Arizona Cardinals.

The wedding date, you ask? Well, it’s kind of been set by Smith and Wilson—January 25. Any ardent NFL fan will know how it will affect the star wide receiver’s nuptial plans. But it looks like the couple has an understanding and is even flexible with the date. Well, sort of.

“That might keep getting delayed,” Wilson said during an interview with Arizona Cardinals alongside Smith with a cheeky smile, hinting at the possibility of his team making a deep playoff run. While Smith answered, “If we have to push it back for the Super Bowl …” Wilson quickly finished the sentence saying, “That’s a good thing.”

With Week 18 of the NFL season extending until January 4, the path to the Super Bowl—including the Wild Card rounds, Divisional rounds, and Conference Championships—will require Wilson’s full commitment throughout his wedding month, assuming his team makes it to the final stages.

Of course, it’s something that Smith wouldn’t like, but it wouldn’t be fair on Wilson to not get his way as well. After all, they are a very powerful couple that is built on athletic success. But mind you, it wasn’t a walk in the park for either of the star athletes.

Wedding uncertainty adds to Sophia Smith and Michael Wilson’s ‘not ideal’ relationship challenges

Sophia Smith and Michael Wilson may have gone through a lot for holding on to each other, but it sure wasn’t easy for them. “More of our relationship has been long distance than actually together,” said the Portland Thorns forward. “We felt like the first two years we built a strong enough foundation that any distance or any time, we’d be fine. But, obviously, it’s not ideal,” added the 24-year-old.

Luckily, Smith will be staying at home with Wilson over the next two months from now as her NWSL season with Portland Thorns is finished, while Emma Hayes gave her an early off from international duties, excluding the forward from the upcoming friendlies against England and Netherlands along with her other two Tripple Espresso gang, Mallory Swanson and Trinity Rodman.

Smith’s absence from the upcoming friendlies does have a silver lining, as it gives her the opportunity to spend quality time with her fiancé—something to also take her mind off the potential wedding date drama for the time being.
