Securing a ticket to attend a performance by your favorite celebrity or an athlete can become exorbitantly expensive owing to the presence of ticket resellers. Sadly, fans had to pay extra to the ticket resellers in order to watch their favorite stars. But now the IRS has stepped in to address a ticket resale problem that has been a persistent issue for the fanbases of Taylor Swift and Lionel Messi.
Meanwhile, Swift is already preparing for her World Eras Tour that will potentially rake her billions. Additionally, the singer is also surrounded by rumors of dating NFL star Travis Kelce.

As per reports by FOX17, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is now taking action to regulate ticket resellers and their financial transactions. This development is a direct result of the American Rescue Plan Act, passed in 2021. Interestingly, this comes after complaints regarding absurd ticket resale prices for events like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, Beyonce’s performances, and MLS ticket sales for Lionel Messi’s games.
Many artists, including Morgan Wallen, have taken steps to ensure that genuine fans can access tickets at reasonable prices, rather than facing inflated rates. The IRS is now mandating that all third-party payment platforms, such as Ticketmaster, Venmo, CashApp, and StubHub, report individuals who have sold $600 or more worth of tickets this year to the IRS using a 1099-K form. This marks a significant reduction from the previous reporting threshold, which stood at $20,000.
Messi vs Swift: Lionel Messi is already rivaling Taylor Swift’s box-office power in the US with tickets at $2,625 for the next Inter-Miami game.

Under these new guidelines, third-party payment platforms will require users to furnish their tax identification and other apt information to facilitate payouts. Users who sell tickets grossing $600 or more will receive a 1099-K form from the respective platform. Certainly, this is good news for all Swifties and Messi fans, who won’t have to pay exorbitant sums to watch their favorite stars.
Speaking of which, Swift’s upcoming Eras Tour is set to rake her billions. Meanwhile, her ‘Love Story’ continues with Travis Kelce.
