Sporting Kansas City made a last-ditch effort to sign Ronaldo. As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the offer from the MLS franchise was very close to that of the Saudi club. There were a few meetings between the MLS club and Portuguese’s entourage.
However, Ronaldo decided to opt for the Al-Nassr deal and crash the dreams of fans to see him and Patrick Mahomes II in the same city. Patrick Mahomes II is a part-owner of Sporting Kansas City and plays in the NFL for Kansas City Chiefs as a quarterback.
Fans reacted to the reports linking Cristiano Ronaldo to Sporting Kansas City
American Football is the most popular sport in the US compared to soccer. Patrick Mahomes II is a big name in the NFL, and people from Kansas City love him. However, many fans liked the idea of Ronaldo joining Sporting Kansas City, as he is a big name in the world of sports.
Some fans were quick to point out why would Ronaldo choose a city like Kansas instead of other popular cities. Mahomes, because of his long-term contract, didn’t have a choice to leave Kansas City, but Ronaldo had a choice believed some fans.
Mahomes didn't have a choice. Don't blame Ronaldo for skipping on that cow town

No way your comparing Mahomes to Ronaldo. Nothing wrong with KC but if Mahomes had the choice there's no way he's living there. Miami would of the perfect place for him it's the closest thing to Spain and Portugal.

Apparently the small market city was what appealed to Ronaldo, because of Mahomes and his popularity in KC https://t.co/AHO75TfESQ

Mahomes was most definitely a factor. Just not in the $$$ details. Reports say that Ronaldo liked how Mahomes (a superstar) can coexist in a small market like KC. It intrigued him.
