When one hears the name Beckham the things that come to mind are soccer, free kicks, and the Manchester United legend. David Beckham is one of the most marketable names in soccer. He had stints with famous soccer clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, PSG, and LA Galaxy. Even in the US, Beckham was a name synonymous with soccer until the American Football star rose to the scene.

Odell Beckham Jr. started making a name for himself after making his NFL debut in 2014 with New York Giants. The wide receiver had a brilliant debut in NFL. He won the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014. However, one of the major off-field highlights of his early career was meeting his childhood idol David Beckham in 2015.

David Beckham once advised Odell Beckham Jr.

In 2015, Odell Beckham Jr., familiarly known as OBJ, ran into the Manchester United legend during a corporate event. It was a special encounter for the wide receiver as he met one of his idols. While speaking to ESPN, OBJ revealed the advice given by the Inter Miami owner back then.

OBJ said, “He just told me, ‘You have to keep the legacy going.’” The NFL star added, “He told me he was watching me throughout the season, catching bits and pieces of it in London or L.A., wherever he’s at, but he’s been keeping up with me and watching me, and just to keep up the family name.”

He revealed his feelings about the moment, “I got to meet one of my childhood idols since I could ever remember, and a guy who I watched probably since I was 4 or 5 years old, David Beckham. It was a pretty surreal moment for me, meeting a guy who I’ve clowned about being a relative of all this time.”

OBJ is in the news currently for off-field controversy. He is under investigation for an assault in LA. The Baltimore Ravens wide receiver is one of the accused in the case.

OBJ and David Beckham have only one thing in common, their last name. Despite what some may perceive the two aren’t related. The wide receiver has definitely made a name for himself in American Football. We can safely say the duo has got fame in the US. OBJ tried his hands on various sports before taking up American Football.

Out of those, soccer was one of the sports OBJ played in his childhood. One of his former coaches once said he would have had a significant career in soccer. The Ravens star was offered a chance to have a trial with the junior national team. He rejected it as he didn’t want to spend a long time overseas away from his family.
