Burnley had a phenomenal last season under Vincent Kompany. Amid a Premier League return, the club recently signed a player in an interesting fashion. They adopted the iconic Teletubbies theme to unveil the new player. Apart from their performance on the pitch, the Clarets have been in the news for quite some time after NFL’s JJ Watt acquired a minority stake in the club.
Similar to Wrexham’s rise on social media after Ryan Reynolds’ arrival, even Burnley is experiencing something similar. The other day, the retired defensive end issued a two-word appreciation for a creative advertisement by the French Women’s soccer team.

After losing long-term servant Ashley Barnes, the Clarets desperately needed to look for a striker. While they already have Wout Weghorst and Jay Rodriguez, signing a younger player was always a possibility. And the club has done it in some style! Basel’s Zeki Amdouni worth about $11.2 million has just signed a five-year deal at the club. The striker scored 22 goals in 55 appearances for FC Basel last season.
In a Teletubbies-inspired video, Amdouni was officially unveiled as a Claret. In the video, all four Teletubbies climb on top of a mountain and introduce themselves. After that, Tinky Winky’s stomach screen suddenly turns on. On the screen was their new signing waiting to address the fans. Undoubtedly, this was quite an unusual way to announce a signing.

While Fabrizio Romano’s ‘here we go’ is an ongoing transfer reference, involving the Teletubbies in this was thoroughly unexpected. It is safe to say that the video has gone viral, fetching over 10.7 million views on Twitter. Such is the impact on the club’s social pages after NFL veteran JJ Watt decided to make an inroad into the soccer universe.
A few days ago, Watt was quick to appreciate a creative ad by French soccer that had gone viral. It was mainly to promote the women’s team ahead of the World Cup.

Through the creative use of VFX, they drew a subtle comparison between the men’s and women’s soccer teams. Basically, they placed women players’ faces over the clips. They tried to portray that women’s soccer is as good as men’s soccer. The ad ended with a bone-chilling message. It quoted, “At Orange, we support les Bleu‘e’s”.
JJ Watt quite liked the viral advertisement. On Twitter, he wrote, “Incredible ad”. Since the acquisition of a stake in Burnley, he’s been quite vocal with the fans. Funnily he is an NFL veteran but has tons of soccer experience. That’s because his wife Kealia Watt is a soccer star in the NWSL in America. The two of them will surely strive for a successful season with the Clarets marking their Premier League return.
