Lalas was asked by a fan on Twitter to choose between the FIFA World Cup final and the NFL Super Bowl, and he chose the FIFA World Cup without hesitation. “C’mon. I enjoyed the Super Bowl tonight, but it kinda faded out at the end. It came down to a referee decision,” Lalas said.

He further added, “No crescendo. The 2022 World Cup final was arguable the greatest in WC history and just got better and better as it progressed.” Lalas’ choice is a strong one, as the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France was definitely a match to remember.

The whole controversy surrounding the refereeing in the match came in the dying minutes of the game. With Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, both with a chance to win the match, and the score drawn at 35-35.

With less than two minutes remaining, MVP of the match Patrick Mahomes threw what seemed to be a winning shot for Kansas City receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. But then a penalty flag came down due to a holding foul from James Bradberry from the Eagles. This awarded the Chiefs with a first down which was decisive in making them come victorious at 38-35.
