Shakira calls the Super Bowl segment ‘the holy grail’ of the industry!
Back in 2019, the NFL declared that Shakira would get on stage with Jennifer Lopez for the iconic halftime performance. Coincidently, the Super Bowl was scheduled to happen on her birthday itself, on 2 February 2020. Whilst in conversation with Hola, Shakira revealed that this was possibly the biggest and best opportunity of her career.

She told Hola, “I think it’s like the holy grail of the entertainment industry”. The Waka Waka singer revealed that she immediately accepted Beyonce’s offer to perform. “It’s a sports event, but it has a huge relevance for us artists, and I think it’s going to be fantastic. And I’m going to be celebrating my birthday with 100 million people. A small party”.

Shakira continued, “He called me, and he asked me if I wanted to be a part of that. And of course, I didn’t hesitate. I said, ‘Of course, count on me.’ And he mentioned that Jennifer was also involved”. The Latin American star promised her fans that she would give them a performance of a lifetime. Without a doubt, the two of them lit the stage on fire.
The two Latin American stars created an absolute masterpiece and an example for every upcoming show in the future.
Lopez didn’t like the 2019 halftime segment despite global praise!
Jennifer Lopez and Shakira gave the NFL fans an energy-filled and power-packed performance back in 2020. The two Latin American superstars literally brought the house down in Miami Gardens, Florida. Their halftime show video is still the most watched halftime performance video to date. The video has garnered a little over 260 million views as of today.

While that segment turned out to become a global hit, Jennifer Lopez wasn’t happy at all about it. She blamed the NFL for giving them less time to perform. Lopez basically claimed that the duo showed have gotten 20 minutes to perform in front of their audiences. She asserted that six minutes for both of them together wasn’t the best idea.
However, Shakira never really complained about the opportunity. The Latin Pop legend still considers the 2019 halftime performances as one of the best of her career. Several years later, she even cheered on for Rihanna just before her halftime segment at the Super Bowl LVII.
