Soccer is the most popular sport worldwide. Player injuries are part of the game. Sometimes injuries are serious, sometimes not. But, the game has been marred by faking the injuries for a long to waste time, drawing cards for the opponent players, and winning set pieces or spot kicks. There has been criticism for going down too easily. JJ Watt has been criticizing soccer players over such incidents.

It has been a concern as actual playing time in a soccer game is going down. In the recently concluded Qatar World Cup, we saw the number of added minutes was high most of the time. The former Houston Texans defensive seemed to be unhappy with such tactics and pointed out how the players get up immediately after the treatment.

JJ Watt criticized soccer players for faking the injuries

It was back in 2012 that Watt first tweeted about how players quickly go down and get up immediately after magic spray treatment. He wrote“Soccer: player falls down like he’s just been sniped, the trainer comes out with some magic spray, player pops up like nothing happened.”

Watt was unhappy with how players react to simple injuries like opponents have knocked them hard. He is not a big fan of soccer players faking injuries and made his feelings clear about the same in 2010. “These soccer players & their fake injuries crack me up. Imagine if we flopped every time we got touched in football. Game would take forever,” Watt said.

These are not the feelings of American Football defensive only, but all those who want to see more soccer action on the pitch. The soccer game’s actual time is 90 minutes, but the effective playing time has been way below that. FIFA reported the effective playing time in the Russia World Cup 2018 between 52 to 58 minutes.
