Americans investing in soccer? NFL stars investing in the soccer universe has suddenly become a trend, hasn’t it? Tom Brady is the latest name on the sheet. Yesterday, the NFL veteran purchased a minority stake in Birmingham City. Surprisingly, he decided to enter a partnership with the new ownership board of the Blues rather than sticking with the club in New England, considering his 20-year streak.

In a recent interview, a Revs icon publicly questioned Brady’s decision to ditch New England. He compared the NFL veteran’s qualities to the likes of Ryan Reynolds, LeBron James, and other sportspersons who are already investors.

Basically, Tom Brady spent the first twenty seasons of his playing career at the New England Patriots. During his tenure, he pretty much became an icon after winning six Super Bowls with the NFL team in New England. If he ever thought of making an investment, the common assumption would be that he would have an inclination toward a club in New England. But it hasn’t really panned out that way.

Everyone knew about Brady’s slight interest in soccer. Months after his retirement, he’s finally decided to make an investment. Instead of preferring New England Revolution which is valued at $495 million as per Sportico, he’s decided to move forward with Birmingham City in the UK. Ex-Revs icon, Charlie Davies publicly questioned his decision on the ‘In Soccer We Trust’ podcast.

He quoted, “Yeah, well we could have used Tom’s promotion with the Revs when he was in New England. Didn’t know he was that much of a footy fan, could’ve used his promotion. It’s obviously great for Birmingham City when you have a legend like Tom Brady involved. There’s nothing much to add except, ‘Hey Tom, he’s a part owner’”.

After that, they began comparing him with other soccer club owners who are American. In the end, they stated that Tom Brady was a very ‘private guy’, unlike Ryan Reynolds who was ‘outward facing’. Davies concluded, “We’ll wait and see. But in terms of a real footy fan you didn’t see him coming to Revs games to support the team”.
