American football and soccer are undoubtedly worlds apart. Yet, history has seen athletes captivated by the prospect of switching careers between these sports. Echoing such events, Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney believes that Philadelphia Eagles star AJ Brown can become “one of the greatest keepers of all time”, while unexpectedly giving a cold shoulder to Jason Kelce.
Rob McElhenney, alongside Ryan Reynolds, spoke to Sports Illustrated regarding the release of Welcome to Wrexham Season 3. At the end of the brief interview, host Claudette Montana asked the It’s Always Sunny actor which player from the NFL side he would want to play for his Welsh team, considering his fandom for the Eagles. While disagreeing with Reynolds regarding his preference for Jalen Hurts, McElhenney clarified that Jason Kelce is actually his ‘favorite person of all time.’ However, he denied selecting him, citing one major reason.
“I would pick him but I don’t know if the man is incredibly athletic. I just don’t know if he could take the cardio that it would take on a 90-minute [game],” said McElhenney. But both Hollywood superstars did agree that they would love to have Kelce inside the Wrexham dressing room to give pep talks, ‘firing everybody up.’ Interestingly, to answer the question, McElhenney concluded, “But if you put AJ Brown in goal and you gave him six weeks of training, I think he might be one of the greatest keepers of all time.”

In a recent episode of the Fearless in Devotion podcast, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney discussed the possibility of Taylor Swift attending a Wrexham match at the Racecourse Ground. While Reynolds expressed enthusiasm about the idea of inviting the pop star, McElhenney mentioned, “I know for sure the Kelce brothers are coming out.” Despite Swift never having been seen at a soccer match before, the Hollywood duo insisted that the presence of Travis Kelce, Swift’s boyfriend, remains their ‘Hardcore plan’ to lure the ‘Tay Tay.’

Interestingly, McElhenney had earlier extended an invitation to the Kelce brothers for a tour of Wrexham, which the two hinted that they might accept. Although Reynolds is a friend of Swift, he acknowledged the challenge of accommodating her at the Racecourse Ground, stating that they would require ‘more seats’ But that won’t be an issue for long, as they are soon increasing the capacity. Nevertheless, while they rally their efforts to lure Taylor Swift through the Kelce brothers, can they pursue AJ Brown to become their keeper? Let us know in the comments.
