The USWNT‘s battle for gold is just one day away. It’s just a matter of time before the former World Champions will have a dance with destiny against Brazil at the Paris Olympics women’s soccer final. While fans are there singing praise for the Gals to write history with their feet, in the city of love, their star forward Sophia Smith has received the sweetest message from her fiancé and NFL standout Michael Wilson, who’s sure as shooting she’ll be coming home with the gold.
The heartfelt wish came after the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver was asked about how her beloved girlfriend’s success has helped him in his professional front. “We’ve been together for such a long time. I really feel like being with her since I was 18, she was No. 1 on paper when I was 19 and she was 19 too. She’s been able to accomplish every single award you basically can get—minus a few, and I’m sure she’s going to add a gold medal on Saturday,” Wilson began.
Hailing her as ‘one in a generation,’ the 24-year-old started highlighting Smith’s major achievements including being the No. 1 overall pick, youngest ever MVP, and the first 2000-born player to get a USWNT cap. MVP of a national championship in college and its winner as well as the youngest player to get 50 goal contributions in the NWSL. “Any stat or award that you can name outside of the World Cup, she has to her tool belt,” added Wilson.

Seems like the star NFL WR is deeply impacted by Sophia’s career achievements. Notably, the two love birds crossed paths at Stanford University in 2019. Since then, both have been with each other through thick and thin. Though long distance makes it tough, they never let it affect neither on their love life or their career. This explains why Wilson couldn’t stop giving the majority of the credit for his sporting success to Smith.
Michael Wilson dedicates his sporting triumphs to the love of his life
Michael Wilson’s praise didn’t end here. He further shed light on how the achievements of her significant other inspire him each day. “It reflects on me because we all heard the saying like, ‘You are who you surround yourself with’ and ‘You are most like the people that you hang out with on a day-to-day,’ I feel that’s given me confidence,” he said.

The Cardinals star insisted that watching Smith’s accomplishments over the years has pushed him to work harder. Wilson also revealed that both of their schedules are aligned; be it going on training at the same time, coming home, or watching a film. Though the acknowledgment came from him that he hasn’t had as much success as Sophia in American football, he continues to push his limits.

Wilson also remains optimistic that results will follow, even if it takes time, appreciating the nature of the game. “You never know when you’re going to have your big moment,” he added. However, one thing is sure; when success does come, Wilson exactly knows when to capitalize on it. Be that as it may, it’s quite a heartfelt note and a romantic gesture from the NFL star. It remains to be seen if Smith keeps her word to win gold on Saturday.
