Since he hung his cleats, Eli Manning has a snowball’s chance in hell to win another Super Bowl ring and equal Patrick Mahomes. However, the two iconic superstars lock horns again on Sunday. Well, not on a football pitch, but from the stands during the NWSL‘s KC Current-Gotham FC clash at Red Bull Arena on Sunday. Manning has a minority stake in Gotham, while Mahomes owns a piece in KC. As a prelude to the clash, the QB duo has already gone back and forth on the web. Now, the New York Giants legend has detailed why he picked on the Chiefs QB before Sunday’s NWSL tie.
Notably, Eli Manning revealed why he invested in the defending NWSL champions Gotham FC in 2022 during his recent appearance on ESPN’s Sports Center episode. Thereafter, the 43-year-old was quizzed about the back-and-forth with Patrick Mahomes. “Had to talk little trash to him[Mahomes]. He may have one Super Bowl ring than me, but he does not have an NWSL Championship ring like I do because Gotham won the championship last year,” said Manning. “I got something to talk trash to him about. I can’t do it about football anymore,” he added.

Eli Manning added that Sunday’s home game against the Patrick Mahomes-owned Current will see the Gotham team receive their rings and championship title in a ceremony. Besides, the 2x Super Bowl champion has challenged the Chiefs star by saying Gotham will drop the banner on KC Current.
Well, Gotham stars receiving their rings and titles in front of Mahomes’ players will be a stellar muscle flex. However, Manning would surely bite the dust if the Current topples his side on the road. And it is not beyond the Mahomes-backed side to do it.

Thanks to three wins in three games, Patrick Mahomes’ KC side is at the top of the NWSL table. The team has scaled the peak by mercilessly scoring a staggering 11 goals. So far, the second top-scoring team in the NWSL is the North Carolina Courage with seven goals. The reigning champions, on the other hand, are only the sixth seed in the NWSL table. They have lost once and marginally won 0-1 against the Portland Thorns.
Besides, the NJ/NY-based outfit has lost ace attacker Midge Purce to a season-ending injury. Additionally, central players such as Rose Lavelle and Lynn Williams also struggled with injury woes to begin the NWSL season. Considering all this, it would be a Herculean task for Gotham to stand their ground against the Current.

If they don’t, it would rather be an embarrassment to take home last year’s ring after a disheartening loss.
