Aside from being a prominent actor, Rob McElhenney is an astute investor. Over the past few years, the ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ star has launched and financed numerous enterprises. While Wrexham AFC is one of his most notable ventures, McElhenney appears eager to broaden his horizons within the sports industry. A recent post might suggest that he has reached out to Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeff Lurie, expressing interest in acquiring a minority stake in the NFL team, which is currently exploring a sale.

The reports about the Eagles exploring a sale come from the esteemed columns of Bloomberg. Interestingly, this has now caught the eye of McElhenney himself, who decided to publically express his interest in the Eagles. The Welsh club’s co-owner took to X and shared Bloomberg’s article with a caption, “Uh… Mr Lurie…. Check your dms pls.” It looks like the 47-year-old doesn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to be a part of his hometown’s NFL team. But how much would it cost him?

Notably, as per Bloomberg, the Eagles are valued at over $7.5 billion. This valuation, approximately 11 times the team’s revenue, would set a record price for an NFL team. Additionally, owner Lurie, who bought the Eagles in 1994 for $185 million, is collaborating with BDT & MSD Partners to attract interest from potential buyers for a stake in the team. Hence, buying a minority stake is certainly going to cost the Hollywood star a fortune.

Perhaps McElhenney can negotiate on that part with Mr Lurie to get a fair price for the stake. Interestingly, the NFL side would be the latest addition to his investment portfolio, with Wrexham and more recently, having invested in the Alpine F1 team. But we know that the Eagles would be his favorite among others, considering the fandom he holds for them!

He was accompanied by his wife, Kaitlin Olson, also a regular at Eagles games, who appeared unimpressed as she took a selfie with McElhenney engrossed in the match. This led the actor to post on X: “Who schedules the Emmys the same night as the @eagles.” Unluckily for McElhenney, the Eagles lost, but he did collect 5 Emmys for Wrexham’s sensational docuseries.

This certainly testifies to his dedication as a huge Eagles fan. Let’s see if he gets a chance to show more passion for the team if he becomes a part-owner of the NFL giants.
