In an interview with TyC Sports, Argentina star Alexis Mac Allister recently revealed his thoughts about Lionel Messi’s famous play against Croatia. Both Mac Allister and Lionel Messi were part of Lionel Scaloni’s side that won the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

Messi was no doubt the standout player in the tournament, winning the golden ball. His 24-year-old Argentine teammate was left impressed by a certain play Messi made in the semi-finals against Croatia, which even left his haters stunned.

In the 69th minute, Messi took a run from the midline. He was up against a Croatian defender, Josko Gvardiol. However, with his smooth footwork, Messi was able to make his way into the penalty box and passed to Julian Alvarez to score a tap-in making the score 3-0.

This play left Alexis Mac Alister in awe. In the interview, he said: “I couldn’t believe the play Messi made [against Croatia] on Julián’s goal.” Then he told what he said to Messi, following the goal. “I left Juli aside and went to hug Leo. I told him ‘you’re a son of a b*tch*’. The strength he has and how he handles his body is amazing”. 

It’s no surprise that Messi impressed his teammate with his skills. After all, he is widely considered to be one of the greatest soccer players of all time.

Mac Allister wants Messi to play in the next World Cup

Messi has already achieved so much in his career, including winning the World Cup, but it seems that his teammate Alexis Mac Allister wants him to go for more. In the same interview, Mac Allister stated his belief. “He (Messi) knows that we want everything as long as he wants and can, so hopefully he can continue with us,” the 24-year-old said. “Obviously, I see Messi in the next World Cup. I have no doubt that at 40 or 45 he will continue to be the best in the world”.

He also said that the team would have no problem “running for him”. It’s an impressive show of faith from Mac Allister, and it’s not hard to see why he feels this way. There is no doubt that Messi is a generational talent, but it remains to be seen if he will play in the next World Cup.

He will be 39 by the time the tournament rolls around, and it is doubtful that he will still be at the top of his game.
