33-year-old USWNT star Alex Morgan last year shared how she adapted to increasing age to get back to the national team. Morgan switched the club last season and opted for San Diego Wave FC, the expansion team in the NWSL. The move panned out to be beneficial for the USWNT star, who only focused on club soccer. The two-time World Cup winner regained her goal-scoring form and returned to the national team. Andonovski, while dropping the veterans, said that their on-field performance will be crucial for their comeback.

Alex Morgan adapted to the age to keep the goal-scoring form

Last year Morgan celebrated her 33rd birthday on July 2. During the celebrations, the USWNT star said, speaking of younger teammates, “They definitely keep me young. So much youthfulness. Sometimes I forget my age. I’m like: ‘Okay, you’re not 23; you’re 33. You have to act like you’re 33.’ ”

After being out of the USWNT, Morgan approached soccer differently. After the disappointing Tokyo Olympics, her stint at Orlando Pride was below-par for her. Some pauses in the career come at the right time, and that’s what happened with Morgan. She wasn’t happy with herself as her productivity was going down.

Morgan decided to be a part of the NWSL franchise that will bring her closer to her family in Southern California. She opted to play for the expansion team San Diego Wave FC. The USWNT star focused only on club soccer and wasn’t thinking of getting back to USWNT. She started to spend quality time with her family. Morgan changed her style of play, focusing more on a finishing job.

It helped the San Diego Wave striker, and she started scoring. Her scoring form made the USWNT coach recall her to USWNT for two friendlies and CONCACAF Women’s Championship last year. Morgan will hope to continue the form and find a place for herself in this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup roster.
