A lot has happened in the soccer world in the past few days. The passing of US soccer journalist Grant Wahl’ shocked the sports world. Days after Wahl’s death in Qatar during the FIFA World Cup, soccer legend Sinisa Mihajlovic passed away. Mihajlovic was battling leukemia for over two years. Tributes poured in for him after the news of his death broke out. He had a massive contribution to the world of sports, and tennis superstar Novak Djokovic penned down a condolence message for him.

Mihajlovic spent the majority of his playing career in Italy. After two seasons with Red Star Belgrade, he signed with AS Roma, who beat Juventus in the race to land him. The former Serbian star then joined Sampdoria and spent four seasons with them. He later went on to play for Lazio and Inter Milan, before hanging his boots.

Mihajlovic was a sports icon back in Serbia and Djokovic was surely a fan. The two have known each other for a long time. Moreover, Mihajlovic once came to the defense of Novak Djokovic during one of his controversies. Djokovic took some time and shared a heart-melting message on his social media after Sinisa’s death.

Novak Djokovic gives tribute to Sinisa Mihajlovic

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic is currently at his home during the tennis off-season. He has been working on himself and preparing for upcoming events. The shocking death of Sinisa Mihajlovic shook him. He shared a condolence message for Sinisa through his social media.

“Rest in peace, dear Sinisa. Condolences to the Mihajlovic family. Thank you for everything you did for our sport, as well as in Italy. Your mark is indelible,” Djokovic shared on his Instagram.

Mihajlovic has been battling leukemia for two years while managing the Italian club, Bologna. However, he was sacked from the top job in September after Bologna gained just 3 three points from their first five games of the season.

He leaves behind his family with five children. He was married to Arianna Rapaccioni, which whom he had five children, two daughters, and three sons. Even Djokovic took some to process the shocking news before taking to social media to share his message of tribute.
