Alfie Haaland, the father of Erling Haaland, has taken a swipe at Arsenal after the Gunners secured a penalty shootout victory against PL winners Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, August 6. Mikel Arteta’s side came from a goal down to take the game into penalties and hand defeat to Manchester City by winning their 17th Community Shield title at Wembley. Cole Palmer put Guardiola’s side ahead in the 77th minute by bending a brilliant left-footed finish into the top-left corner, but a deflected effort in the last minute from Leandro Trossard was enough to send the clash into spot-kicks following a 1-1 draw.

Arsenal kept their composure in the shootout with Aaron Ramsdale coming to the rescue & saving two spot-kicks to earn the Gunners a 4-1 win in the penalties. With Kevin De Bruyne hitting the crossbar & Ramsdale saving Rodri’s effort, the Gunners completed the dramatic comeback & started the season with a trophy under their belt.

Erling Haaland’s dad could not help but take a dig and poke some fun at the North London club after his son failed to find the net in the FA Community Shield game. Haaland’s father, Alfie, reshared Troll Football’s post on Twitter in which the page shared an infamous video of Ralph Hasenhuttl celebrating before holding back after Southampton scored & took the lead against Arsenal last season. However, Alfie in a typical fashion quote tweeted with a winking emoji stating, “Well done Arsenal, great win. You must be favorites for the league now.”

Erling Haaland was unable to make a huge impact on the proceedings and was subbed off after a little more than an hour in the game. It was also noted that Haaland failed to score in the second consecutive Community Shield, as he was equally ineffective against Liverpool in the Community Shield last season. However, he then regained his best form and fired his team to the treble last season, scoring a total of 52 goals in 53 games for the club.

Arsenal fell short of winning the Premier League title last season, as Manchester City claimed their third consecutive championship. Guardiola’s team finished five points ahead of the Gunners, and they also won the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League to complete a historic treble.

Guardiola could not resist taking a veiled swipe at Arsenal

Speaking after the match, Guardiola praised his players and stated that they were the better side for large parts of the game. He said, “We were close. We were good for 25-30 mins in the first half, in the last 15 minutes of the first half they were better. They had two chances & Stefan did really well. But in the second half, we were much, much better.”

Guardiola was pleased with his players’ performance in a tough match, but he was ultimately disappointed with the outcome. “We faced an extraordinary team. It happened last season and it happened again. We were close and we are a little bit disappointed for the final result but it’s football,” he added.

The Manchester City’s boss also couldn’t help himself in popping a potential jab at Arsenal. He said, “We lost three [Community Shields] in a row! Do you know why? We won three Premier Leagues!”

City will be hoping to retain and fight for the Premier League title for a fourth consecutive time this upcoming season, but it’s pretty clear that Arteta’s men will be there to challenge once again. Meanwhile, Manchester City will look to start their title defense with a victory when they visit Burnley, whereas the Gunners will host Nottingham Forest at the Emirates on Premier League Matchday 1 on August 12.

Do you think Arsenal will finally have their way with Premier League this season? Will Erling Haaland fire up once again for Manchester City? Only time will tell.
