The USWNT is sitting pretty on the golden throne of the Olympics! And it’s a moment of happy tears for the supporters. Especially for Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson. He admitted to crying in joy again and again after seeing his wife Mallory Swanson light up the Olympic stage in Paris. Now that Team USA has won the gold, solely on the back of Swanson’s stellar 57th-minute strike against Brazil, contagious ecstasy has taken over the Swanson household. Dansby Swanson is up again with a heartfelt tribute to his wife, the MVP of his heart, and the new gold medalist in town!
It was pure cinema in Mallory Swanson’s case. It was her 100th USWNT game tonight. A goal and an Olympic gold in the same! What else could she ask for!
Dansby Swanson took to Instagram and shared a picture of Swanson running in ecstasy after scoring Team USA’s gold-winning goal. “God is so good. Always and forever. You are such an inspiration to so many, but more to me than anyone can ever fathom,” the Cubs star captioned his post. Continuing his grand praise, Dansby Swanson highlighted the uniqueness of Mallory’s milestone at the Olympic finale.

Meanwhile, Swanson’s game-winning goal did not receive a sweet response from all sides. Many think she scored from an offside play. But again, those claims from critics were spectacularly thwarted.

Even Team USA’s biggest cheerleaders stated on social media that Mallory Swanson’s goal came from an offside situation. However, a renowned soccer journalist shared a screen capture of the footage of the play that led to Swanson’s goal. The insider stated that Swanson was clearly onside and it was Smith who was off. He again added it was up to referees to decide whether Smith interfered with rival defenders or distracted them.
As it happened during the game, the Brazilian defense, including the goalie was largely unbothered about Smith. Rather, they put their energy vainly to contain Mallory Swanson. Apparently, the VAR also decided that Smith did nothing to distract the Brazilian defense and ruled that Swanson’s goal was valid.

Be that offside fiasco as it may, USWNT has clinched its record fifth Olympic gold- the first in eight years. That too during Emma Hayes’ debut season. And Swanson has been at the center for Team USA, not just in the final, but throughout the tournament. With the game-winning goal in the Olympic finale, Swanson returns home as Team USA’s top scorer with four goals in six games. More reason for Dansby to be ecstatic.
