Wrexham AFC has clearly made a name for itself around the world. Despite playing in the non-league in Wales, they have managed to attract global attention thanks to their owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Wrexham sits on the top of the Vanarama National League standings and could wrap up the league in the next 10 days. They have now registered a close 1-0 win against Southend United, firther extending their lead in the league table.

Wrexham started the game in control and led the scoreline 1-0 at half-time. The only goal in the first 45 mins came through an own goal from Southend’s goalkeeper.
He dropped the ball in the his own net in the 38th min giving Wrexham an all-important lead. Ryan Reynolds’ side came close to doubling the lead in the 43rd min when Eoghan’s shot hit the post. Wrexham finally managed to wrap up the game with a close 1-0 win and taking home all 3 points.

A total of 9770 fans came to the Racecourse to support their respective teams despite the horrid conditions. Thsi also included 726 Southend fans who managed to make the journey for their team. In fact, the team’s CEO and manager came down to help prepare the ground for the game.

Southend United sit just outside the promotion qualification spots. They been struggling financially for the past few years and even received help from Wrexham fans through £21,135 in donations. The news broke just before Wrexham’s all-importamt clash with Southend United.
