If you’ve ever played any sport in your life, you must have hoped for your loved ones to come and watch you play. In fact, those whose parents make it to see their kids in action are truly fortunate, as having them on the sidelines, cheering and sharing in the pride, is a feeling few get to experience. However, when Dennis Rodman unexpectedly showed up to watch his rising star daughter, Trinity Rodman, instead of being happy, she admitted, “I was like, so mad.”
Before you question the USWNT forward, she does have a reason to get mad. As a daughter who, along with her brother, was raised by their mother after Dennis left the family at an early age, his sudden appearance at one of her games understandably frustrated her. “I’m already s**ting my pants as it is; I’m stressed,” began Trin during her recent chat on the ‘Call her Daddy’ podcast.
“We’re halfway through the first half and I hear it. His voice to me is like, ‘beep voice.’ And I hear, ‘Let’s go, Rodman,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh my f**king gosh, no way this is happening right now,'” narrated the forward before sharing her breakdown moment. “Goal kick happens; I’m trying to defend. I kind of look back and I’m like, ‘What the f**k?’ I look straight and I start crying on the field.”

We wouldn’t blame Trinity. Seeing her dad, who was never around her childhood and making a short-notice appearance will surely leave the 22-year-old player off-guard. In order to calm herself during the game, one of the stopping moments of the game saw her talk to her teammate and friend Ashley Sanchez. “No one knows what the f**k is going on and I’m looking at Ash and I’m crying, saying, ‘Dude, my dad’s here.'”
Immediately knowing what’s up with her friend, Sanchez hugged Trin and asked her to not bother with her dad’s presence and to try focusing on the game. At halftime, the daughter of the NBA icon couldn’t keep herself apart. “I cry my eyes in the locker room during the first half,” shared the recent Olympic gold medalist.
As the stakes were already high against North Carolina Courage, considering that game was an NWSL playoff quarterfinal, then-Spirits coach questioned Rodman if she would be able to even continue due to her emotional state. Luckily, she managed to calm herself down and finished the game.
“The whistle blew and I was so mad. I was like, ‘You took this happy moment from me.’ You f**k with my head again,'” admitted Trinity, slamming her dad for skipping all her regular-season games but suddenly appearing at such a pivotal one, seemingly to disrupt her moment. She even expressed her anger and disbelief at her mom, Michelle Moyer, for knowing and not telling her before.

But if you think this story carries a happy message, you’re mistaken, as Trinity openly revealed her father’s true intentions for showing up at the match.
Trinity Rodman accuses Dennis Rodman of reconciling with her for the sake of cameras
You may have seen the post-match moments where their strained relationship appeared to heal, with a big hug and heartfelt messages on Instagram. However, it was all superficial, as despite Dennis suggesting they catch up again later, there was complete “radio silence” between them after the 2023 World Cup. “Stupid me for thinking that was gonna be some type of new start,” admitted Trin.

“It was just gonna be like, he’s popping in whenever he wants to be on camera. Even when at that game [Spirits vs. Courage], I don’t think it was for me. I think he wanted to have a good conscience and be headlined, ‘Dennis Rodman showed up to his daughter’s game in an important quarterfinal of her rookie year’ and that’s exactly what it was,” added Rodman, slamming her dad over such sporadic meetings.
No wonder that Trinity began to suspect that her famous father was only interested in gaining attention and improving his public image, trying to rewrite the negative narrative of how he abandoned his family and was absent from their lives. Do you think it’s true? Let us know in the comments.
