Ever since Lionel Messi graced his presence in Miami, it has been a fairytale for him. Before the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s arrival; Inter Miami was ranked bottom in the league as well as in all attacking underlying metrics. However, since Leo’s arrival, the Herons have already won the Leagues Cup and have made it to the US Open Cup Final.

This meteoric shift in Miami’s fortunes is truly astounding and many are citing this rise as ‘unbelievable’. Former USMNT icon and soccer analyst Herculez Gomez is also among them who is just in awe of what Mess’s arrival has done for the Herons. Hence he took to ‘Twitter/X’ today to air his feelings at this ‘fairytale’ beginning for La Pulga.

Hours ago, Lionel Messi created history yet again as his all-round performance led Inter Miami to the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Final. Since La Pulga joined, he has scored a whopping 10 goals in 8 matches. While he didn’t score today against Cincinnati; he assisted twice to equalize the match. If Messi & Co wins the US Open Cup; it will truly be the greatest turnaround in the history of any soccer club. From being 15th seeded to potentially two trophy wins is incredible and former USMNT icon Hercluez Gomez took to ‘X’ to express his awe.

“You can’t make this up,” said the soccer analyst in disbelief. “Somehow the worst team in MLS gets the best player in the world and wins an immediate trophy. Now they will have a chance to win another trophy at home in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Final. Everything lines up for this guy,” said Gomez in awe of Messi’s contributions for Mimai’s turnaround.

Interestingly, these comments come a week after former Inter Miami manager Jason Kreis’s 9-year-old comment resurfaced where Kreis deemed it impossible for Messi to change the fortunes of a bottom-ranked MLS team on his own.

Back in 2014, Jason Kreis asserted boldly that Messi’s skill was equivalent to his team’s prowess. According to the former Miami assistant manager; if placed in the weakest MLS team, he truly believed that Messi would struggle to make an impact. “I firmly believe that if you put Lionel Messi on the worst team in Major League Soccer, they would still be the worst team in Major League Soccer,” said Kreis.

The fact that Kreis said this about Prime Messi is truly courageous. But what’s more impressive is the fact that Leo proved him wrong big time while he is at the fag end of his career. If a 36-year-old Messi can do this for Miami in a month’s span; one can only imagine what a 27-year-old prime Barcelona Leo would have done in the MLS.
