Lionel Messi seems to be in demand. La Pulga has been all over the news as he was once again nominated for the Laureus Sportsman of the Year award earlier this week. The news has taken the internet by storm with a section of fans debating if the player deserves the nomination. With everyone providing their opinion, Argentine journalist Martin Liberman has also offered his two cents on the take.
It is not the first time Liberman has taken shots on the Argentine superstar. The journalist was all over Messi during the 2016 Copa America, slamming him for his subpar performances. However, his comments did not sit well with Messi’s sister, Maria Sol Messi, who hit back at the journalist defending her brother.
And now, Liberman reacted to Messi’s nomination as the journalist praised the player before claiming the nomination was ‘Undeserved’ as he believed in a collection of multiple players better than the Inter Miami captain. The Argentine journalist stated, “I’m just stating the truth. The kid [Messi] is a genius. But 2023 was a bad year for him. Hugs!”

Despite that, Liberman had the last laugh as he mocked Sol during his show on Fox Sports Argentina, claiming he does not discuss football with women. He then tried to cool things down, stating he could understand where Sol was coming from, as she was just trying to defend her brother like any other sister.
Liberman’s recent take resonates with a lot of critics around the world. Fans worldwide believe Messi has been nominated for the prestigious award just for the sake of it. However, the Argentine had a decent run following his move to Inter Miami, helping the side make history last season.
