Paulo Dybala will count himself fortunate to have played with both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. After all, it is an exclusive club with just 26 players. Despite his prodigious talent, the AS Roma star could not emerge as a key player for his national side. In 8 years, Dybala has earned just 38 caps for La Albiceleste. The reason is his inability to stitch a partnership with Messi. Interestingly, La Joya seems to cherish the ‘wonderful‘ partnership he had with CR7.
Messi previously said, “With me in the national team he (Dybala) played further out on the left, which he’s not as used to.” For the club sides, both Dybala and Messi play in the central playmaker roles. This meant that for the national team, La Joya was often used in a position not natural to him. Hence, Dybala himself admitted playing with La Pulga was difficult previously. However, his on-field chemistry with Cristiano Ronaldo was something different.
Dybala said via Calciomercato, “As for Cristiano Ronaldo: he is a champion. Playing together with him was wonderful for me, but it was also a way to learn from his dedication and, above all, his constant desire to win and improve.” For Juventus, CR7 would play either on the left wing or as a center-forward, giving Dybala the freedom to be a playmaker and dictate the game. This partnership brought out the best in the Argentine star, as evidenced by his Serie A MVP win in the 2019-20 season.

Moreover, Dybala said, “From Ronaldo, I learned dedication to sport, this attitude towards victory. I’m not surprised that it’s doing well in Saudi Arabia too.” Interestingly, there were a lot of rumors linking Dybala to Al Nassr. Perhaps the winter transfer rules proved to be the barrier.

In January, there were a lot of rumors that Paulo Dybala would join the Knights of Najd. Moreover, adding fuel to the fire, the Argentine midfielder appeared in a video with him giving a thumbs up and saying ‘Forca Al Nassr‘. Considering his release clause of $14 million, and chemistry with Cristiano Ronaldo, the deal seemed like an obvious one. But it didn’t materialize.
The most likely reason could be the challenging transfer procedure that consists of the initial application, agreement copy, and the final copy. The lengthiest of these is submitting the initial application. With just 1 month in the winter transfer window to do all the work, it makes sense why the Knights of Najd avoided the transfer complexity. Perhaps they could be looking at a summer move for Paulo Dybala?
