Cristiano Ronaldo has been the toast of the town for decades. The Portuguese superstar remains a beacon of inspiration for millions of soccer fanatics, with his impact transcending the boundaries of the beautiful game. In a notable admission, a loanee from Manchester City has not only declared CR7 as his idol but also expressed his dream of sporting the Real Madrid jersey. Girona’s Yan Couto, recently took part in a rapid-fire round where popular sports content creator, Josep De Tena asked him several questions.
De Tana asked Couto about a club that he likes a lot but has never played for. To which he answered Real Madrid. When asked about his childhood idol, the 21-year-old succinctly replied Cristiano Ronaldo. Without a doubt, the Brazilian international seemed to have channeled his inner Madrista.
Interestingly, his Madrid fever didn’t stop there; he also declared Vinicius Jr. as his favorite player, with whom he has swapped jerseys. Couto described the fellow Brazilian winger as one of the hardest players he has ever faced.

Notably, Couto was signed by City in 2020 from Brazil’s Coritiba. Since then, he has enjoyed loan spells at Girona and Portuguese side Braga. He has been in impressive form, making 18 starts in La Liga and notching a goal and 6 assists. He has also scored a goal in his 3 Copa del Rey appearances.
Overall, Girona is playing well, as they sit in 2nd place behind league leaders Madrid but both share an equal tally of 48. Indeed, this is quite an interesting revelation from the Girona star and it must have pleased all Madrid fans to see the youngster pledge his allegiance to Los Blancos. Couto’s Madrid dream wouldn’t be possible if not for Pep Guardiola
Yan Couto had earlier revealed that he was close to signing for none other than FC Barcelona. After the Brazilian team won the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the Catalans were strongly linked with making a move for him, back in 2020. While revealing his negotiations with both Manchester City and Bayern Munich, he said, “It was sure that it went to the Barça.”

But in the end, he decided against it and went to the English Premier League team. “Pep Guardiola called me and things changed,” he concluded, during an interview. It’s sad to see Blaugrana miss out on Yan Couto, as now he is making strides with Girona. Coincidentally, his side is even seven points clear of Xavi’s side. How tables have turned, haven’t they?
