The financial plight of Southend United Football Club has been severe, with the soccer club in deep trouble due to lack of funds. To remedy this and avoid liquidation, a consortium of local businessmen had been active in talks to take over the club from its existing owner.

To boost the chances, the side recently secured an urgent court order allowing the payment of players and accountants before the deadlines. During the recent hearing by Judge Sebastian Prentis Southend United’s representative, Barrister Hilary Stonefrost hinted that new owners are very well present.

She revealed, “To ensure the business of the company can survive under its present ownership long enough for a sale of the company’s shares to new owners”.

Stonefrost even added, “The salaries of the footballers and the footballing staff have to be paid today… and if they are not paid, new owners can walk away”. There’s no doubt that these court orders bring a victorious air to the team. However, many still question skeptically whether the celebrity figurehead will be a part of the team.

Although Johnson has not yet made any comments on the topic, nor has he been officially linked with the takeover. But the probability of him being the one getting the team out of its current turmoil is very high. After all, Johnson would not be the first celebrity to make this move. We have already seen this happen with Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham.
