The controversial debate on the best soccer player never comes to any conclusion. It becomes easy for fans and analysts to rank players based on their initial playing role. Although it’s still a hard task to come to a single conclusion, Kevin De Bruyne has always been ranked as the best midfielder among the current generation.

Indeed, the Manchester City star has been crowned as the best Premier League Midfielder several times. Furthermore, a few months back, De Bruyne was voted the best Premier League midfielder of all time, beating out the likes of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and Paul Scholes to take the title.

Despite such splendid accomplishments, Wrexham’s star player, Ben Foster, shares a different opinion. The 40-year-old soccer veteran believes the Belgian midfielder still can’t outclass Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes.

Wrexham’s star Ben Foster shares his opinion on Kevin De Bruyne

Ex-Manchester United and current Wrexham goalie, Ben Foster, recently made a bold statement. As per the Englishman, Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, still outclasses every other midfielder to this day. In a recent podcast, Foster named the top 10 midfielders in the Premier League.

To everyone’s surprise, the Wrexham star ranked Kevin De Bruyne just below the top spot on his list. Foster commented that he believes Bruyne is undoubtedly the greatest active midfielder; however, when it comes to the all-time great, he can’t surpass Paul Scholes yet.

On De Bruyne’s splendid performance over the years, Foster added, “He’s too dominant. Kevin De Bruyne is just different. Gravy. Different level. Just different level.” The 40-year-old mentions that the Man City star midfielder could easily surpass most players. His passing ability is staggering and has played a vital role in probably the best team the Premier League has ever seen.

“I’m proposing KDB number two and Scholes number one. This is me personally,” Foster further adds. Despite the Belgian’s numerous achievements and contribution to Man City’s success, Foster ranks the former Manchester United legend as the best midfielder of all time.

Why did Ben Foster side with Paul Scholes?

Besides De Bruyne’s phenomenal achievements, it’s still not an easy debate between the two soccer legends. Paul Scholes was no joke and had a splendid career with Manchester United back in his glory days. Moreover, he won 11 Premier League titles and played almost 500 games for United.

The Manchester United legend even won two Champion League titles with the club. Foster admires Paul Scholes and explained his controversial opinion. He said, ” I think he’s the best midfielder this country has ever produced. Not for England. Not for England, but in the Premier League. And that’s what it’s about. No, but you’ve also seen these players up close. You have more of an insight into this.”
