One of the most exciting seasons awaits the Wrexham AFC fans. The club is back in EFL’s League One after nineteen years but with better resources in their kitty. After being bought by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the team has seen a rise in recognition and secured access to necessary infrastructure. But the challenge ahead doesn’t appear easy, as the club is already facing stiff competition in the transfer market. Having lost a couple of targets, including one of Paul Mullin’s old colleagues, it seems like another main target is gaining heavy interest from other clubs.

According to the Mirror, Wrexham is eyeing Ryan Longman from Hull City FC this summer. However, Millwall FC and Tom Brady’s Birmingham City are also competing with the Welsh club for the winger apart from a few other Championship teams. The player spent most of his time with Millwall last season going on a loan deal, and it appears the Lions are impressed with his performances. In addition, Birmingham City, who is in a similar position to Wrexham, acquired just goalkeepers and hope to make their first attacking signing.

Meanwhile, Longman could be a valuable addition to growing Phil Parkinson’s squad. He has already provided some valuable moments for Millwall last season, scoring a match-winning goal against Leicester City in April. He finished with three goals and three assists for them and impressed the manager who wants to make him permanent.

Longman will enter the last year of his contract with Hull, in this upcoming season after signing in 2022. However, he is expected to be sold by them this summer and reports suggest that the Championship club is the favorite to land the deal. With Birmingham relegated last season, the Englishman is expected to snub them and Wrexham to play in the English second tier.

Wrexham’s hardships in the transfer market continue

Despite its growing popularity, Wrexham hasn’t found a suitable attacker to sign this season and lost a couple of targets. Reports earlier revealed that Doncaster Rovers’ player Joe Ironside will continue at the club despite rumors of the Red Dragons’ bid. Talks suggested that the player chose the Rovers because it is closer to his home, breaking the hopes of a reunion with Wrexham’s striker Paul Mullin. Both played together at Cambridge United in the 2020-21 season.

Moreover, another player Josh Magennis snubbed Ryan and Rob’s side to join Exeter City on a one-year deal, leaving them with only one permanent signing this season, Arthur Okonkwo. However, with more time remaining for the season to commence, can Phil Parkinson pull off some smart deals? Let us know in the comments.
