Another season of high hopes attached with some pressure is on the way for Wrexham AFC. With the heroics it displayed over the last few years, the fans expect it to compete formidably even in League One. But recent reports suggested the riddle the club is facing about their upcoming transfers. After letting go of many players from last season, Phil Parkinson’s unit is facing difficulty finding the appropriate replacements. In addition, it appears even a few targets are also slipping out of their hands as they could lose an international player to rivals.
Forward Josh Magennis, who the club was seeking to land, may not arrive at STōK Cae Ras if things go the way, they are. According to the latest report by the Wrexham Insider, another League One rival, Exeter City is expected to acquire the striker. Former Premier League side Wigan Athletic released Magennis after his two-year contract expired this summer and gained interest from Parkinson.
The North Ireland striker already played under Phil Parkinson at Bolton Wanderers from 2018 to 19, but had to leave the club because of issues concerning wages.

In addition, the player also had a small altercation with Parkinson during that time after he refused to play a game because of financial issues. Scoring more than 100 goals in 600 appearances for club and country, his presence could have brought a winning mentality, as he was part of two consecutive League One triumphing campaigns with Hull City and Wigan.
However, with the extension of Steven Fletcher’s contract for a year, the deal may be unlikely. The club already has efficient strikers like Fletcher and Ollie Palmer diluting the chances of bringing an extra one. Meanwhile, Wrexham’s attempts at their goalpost turn were successful.

Wrexham still searching for players despite Arthur Okonkwo’s deal
On a positive note for Wrexham, their main target and member of League Two’s Team of the Season, Arthur Okonkwo will stay with them permanently. The goalkeeper played a key role in last season’s success with 14 clean sheets and conceding just 30 goals in 36 games. He now signed a 3-year deal which will last til 2027. Moreover, their backup goalie Mark Howard has also decided to continue with the 2023 National League champions for one more year.
The Red Dragons were also interested in two other players, Tom Pearce and Stephen Humphrys, who were let go by Wigan. However, there are no reports of progress regarding the matter. Overall, it is clear Parkinson and his crew are trying hard to fill their squad, but with a tougher league coming up, it looks like the appropriate recruitments will take time.
