Wrexham AFC is catching some Z’s now that their season is over. Having successfully achieved promotion to League One, the Red Dragons are recharging their batteries before embarking on a new journey. But instead of enjoying the vacation or basking in their hard-earned success, a few players are busy out doing philanthropic work as they start a charity project to aid the children in need in their beloved town.

Wrexham captain Luke Young earlier attended the grand opening of Hope House Children’s new flagship superstore on Smithfield Street in Oswestry on April 29. Per Wrexham.com, It was marked as the charity’s largest store yet. The event featured a special ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside the children in care with volunteers, staff, and supporters also joining in the attendance. Young expressed his ‘honor‘ and gratitude to be a part of the shop opening. His teammate, Ollie Palmer had also paid a visit.

Palmer, also the Hope House ambassador, visited the shop before its opening to meet with staff and volunteers. In a heartwarming gesture, the 32-year-old striker even made a generous donation of tracksuits from his design label, WXM1864 Clothing. Interestingly, the opening day of the store attracted a large crowd of shoppers eager for pre-loved clothing, accessories, and furniture, with sales expected to exceed an impressive £5,000.

Notably, Hope House is a charity event that offers essential care and support for local children with life-threatening conditions. It operates over 15 shops across Shropshire, Cheshire, Mid, and North Wales. Together, these stores raise over £1 million ($1.2 million) annually, contributing significantly to the £7.5 million ($9.5 million) needed to fund care for every child in need.

Indeed, it is quite a heartfelt gesture from the Wrexham stars, especially from Luke Young, who was recently released by Ryan Reynolds and Co.

Some huge changes going around in Wrexham!

Days ago, Wrexham announced a series of player departures, with first-team captain Luke Young being the initial casualty from the Red Dragons’ squad. Young, who had previously held a prominent role, found himself relegated in the team hierarchy following Wrexham’s promotion to League Two last season. During the current term, he managed just 12 starts in the league. Who are the others that weren’t retained by Wrexham?

Surprisingly, Ben Tozer was not offered a new contract by Ryan Reynolds. Additionally, long-serving goalkeeper Rob Lainton, along with defenders Aaron Hayden, Jordan Tunnicliffe, and Callum McFadzean, bid farewell to the club. Rounding out the list of departures are Owen Cushion and Dan Davies. Unfortunately, such transitions are often inevitable for clubs experiencing rapid ascension through the leagues.

However, difficult decisions must be made to ensure the team’s continued progression. Either way, the people of Wrexham will not forget everything Luke Young did for the Welsh club, both on and off the pitch.
