Wrexham AFC are finally making moves in the summer transfer window. Days after signing Arthur Okonkwo from Arsenal, the Welsh side announced their second arrival of the 2024/25 season in the form of Lewis Brunt from Leicester City. While many may question the center-back’s decision to play in League One over the formidable Premier League, for Brunt, it was a ‘no-brainer.’
Technically, the English defender was a part of Leicester’s U-21 side. The Foxes had signed him from the academy set up of Aston Villa, where it all began for the 23-year-old. Yet ultimately, it was the ‘ambition’ of RR McReynolds LLC that intrigued him to sign for the Welsh side. “It was a club I was always interested in joining. I had another year left on my contract at Leicester but Wrexham is a club with a rich history and great ambition,” he said, as compiled by The Leader.

“Speaking to the gaffer and where this club wants to be in the next few years is something that I want to be a part of. For me to join was a no-brainer,” added the former on-loan Gloucester star. In reality, Wrexham managed to steal Brunt from their League Two rivals Mansfield Town, who also got promoted alongside the Red Dragons to England’s third division this year. Even though the youngster had a chance to help Mansfield clinch promotion to the Championship, he rather chose to do it for Phil Parkinson and Co.
“This will be my first taste of League One so if I can replicate the success of last season with Wrexham, I will be over the moon,” added Brunt, who faced Wrexham last season in one of the two fixtures. While his optimism for the club looks neat, let’s decipher exactly what kind of player he is.

Did Lewis Brunt make the right call choosing Wrexham over the Premier League for his career growth?
Have an interesting take?
Center back is rather a layman’s term but further analyzing Lewis Brunt’s role, in reality, he is a massive plus one to Phil Parkinson’s roster. The former Villa academy graduate assured fans that he is someone who is always determined to play. “I class myself as a ball player and someone who is calm under pressure but I also enjoy the defending side of it and making blocks and all that stuff,” Brunt said.
Last year, he made over 40 appearances for Mansfield Town and three goal contributions as well. While for Leicester’s U-21, Brunt played 45 games and notched 4 goals and an assist, the defender has also been featured in 4 games for the senior squad. Certainly, having signed a three-year contract with Wrexham for an undisclosed fee, Lewis Brunt will certainly look to stamp his mark at the STōK Cae Ras.
