Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have really become the center of attention ever since they took over Wrexham AFC. The Welsh club rose to significant fame and success since it came under the ownership of Hollywood heroes.
More notably, they have also created immaculate hype around celebrity ownership. Whether Natalie Portman with Angel City or David Beckham owning Inter Miami CF & Salford City, they have taken the idea to a new level. In fact, their latest success has been enticing other celebrities to get a sports franchise of their own.
While Reynolds is already in line to buy the ownership of yet another team, renowned actor Tom Hanks has also been tipped to buy a soccer club, namely, Aston Villa. However, the actor has revealed why it won’t be possible for him to do quite the same.

Tom Hanks responds to reports of $750 million takeover
Tom Hanks is a big fan of Premier League side Aston Villa. The Forrest Gump actor is a die-hard supporter of the club and watches the matches often. His interest in the club urged him with requests to buy the club and repeat the feat as Reynolds at Wrexham. However, Hanks believes it is completely different from buying a National League side.
“I think Wrexham is a little bit different in the economic scale than Aston Villa,” said Tom Hanks in an interview with BBC. Both Villa and Wrexham are two different clubs, economically and professionally. He added, “That’s a little above my pay grade”. Of course, the values of the Red Dragons and the Villans are totally different.

While the deal is off, back in 2019 on James Corden’s Late Late Show, he revealed how he became an Aston Villa fan after hearing the names on football scores. “And I thought ‘Aston Villa’, what a lovely vacation spot! Aston Villa… It’s a beautiful villa, you throw open the French doors, there’s the beautiful port of Aston down below you,” he told Corden.

“And it turns out it’s in Birmingham. There’s nothing wrong with that, nothing wrong with Birmingham. But it’s not a town for the light-hearted, I tell you that. So I’m a dedicated Aston Villa fan since then. I’ve seen them play once, a friendly in the USA, so yes, I support them,” Hanks added.
Indeed, it is quite a story, but how Reynolds got into the soccer world and turned out to be a club owner is quite a different one. And you will be surprised to know that Wrexham wasn’t actually even Ryan Reynolds’ first choice.

In an interview with the i, famous presenter Jeff Stelling made a shocking claim about Reynolds’ ownership of Wrexham. He claimed that the Dragons’ success could have been of an EFL II team. Stelling himself is a Hartlepool fan and was obviously sad to see his side get relegated. He revealed how it could have been his side to get the promotion.
“It’s 100% true that they wanted to buy Hartlepool, and it’s ironic they went for Wrexham in the end who are going into the Football League when the club who was their first choice, which was us, are going out of the Football League. It’s gone now though. There’s no point in regrets.”
It’s pretty ironic to see how a second thought got them relegated while Wrexham had this miraculous promotion. Either way, what are your thoughts on these? Let us know in the comments.
