Celebrations were plenty at STōK Cae Ras, following Wrexham’s historic promotion to League One. However, manager Phil Parkinson issued a harsh reality check to the players ahead of a tricky transfer window. He said, “The massive challenge for us is can we build this squad strongly to challenge in League One.” As a part of this challenge, the club has released 8 players. While it came out as a shock move, some of the players have no time for disappointment and continue to live their best lives.

Goalkeeper Rob Lainton and defender Ben Tozer were among the players released. Yet, the duo seemed to be in high spirits and were in a club with their teammates in Las Vegas. Notably, the entire squad is in the city to celebrate their promotion. The Instagram story by Lainton shows the pair grooving to music and singing their hearts out in a club. Perhaps, copium following their Wrexham exits? Likely so, especially in Tozer’s case.

This season, the defender played in 29 games and was an important player for the Red Dragons. The 34-year-old was also voted into the National League TOTY last season as well. Hence, his exit is more surprising compared to Lainton. Lainton has been Wrexham’s third-choice goalkeeper and has not played a single match this campaign! As such, the writing was on the wall for the 34-year-old.

Other players released include defenders Jordan Tunnicliffe, Callum McFadzean, Aaron Hayden, and midfielder Luke Young. Moreover, youngsters Owen Cushion and Dan Davies also saw their stint at STōK Cae Ras come to an end.  The loss of players, many of whom had a key role in the club’s growth is undoubtedly saddening. However, Wrexham fans have plenty to be excited about as the club is working on a game-changing transfer!

Wrexham in talks to sign League Two goal-machine

As per reports, the Welsh club is working to sign striker Macauley Langstaff. The Notts County Star has scored 28 goals in 46 games in League Two and walked away with the Golden Boot. Yet, the signing won’t be easy as the operation is expected to require a significant financial outlay. The approximate is that Langstaff would cost more than $440k spent on Ollie Palmer in 2022, which would make him Wrexham’s biggest-ever signing.

However, the upside to such a move is that Wrexham could line up with a Langstaff-Mullins partnership. Paul Mullins is an impressive attacker and racked up 24 goals last campaign which is bested only by Langstaff. However, the Englishman achieved this tally in just 38 games! According to manager Phil Parkinson, League One is a ‘big test‘. The best way to ace the test could be by lining up with one of the best attacking duos in the division. Will the move happen? Let’s wait and watch.
