Everyone has their favorite soccer player. And the Wrexham AFC boss is no exception to it. Playing as a midfielder, Phil Parkinson had a chance to share the field with some iconic names in his career. It becomes difficult for someone who played over 500 games to name the best teammate. But for Reds’ boss, the answer was simple.
Parkinson is with the club in the US for preseason. The club plays Philadelphia Union II on July 29, their last game of the tour, before returning to Wales. Meanwhile, before flying to the US, Parkinson sat down with the TWS podcast, where he divulged his best teammate.

Parkinson started his soccer journey with The Saints. The 55-year-old didn’t appear for the first team but happened to play with none other than Matt Le Tissier, one of the greatest Premier League players. And it was his obvious choice when asked about the best teammate he played with.
While speaking to the TWS Sports podcast, a special podcast hosted by autistic students from England, Parkinson said, “I could talk for a long time about Matty,” about Le Tissier. “He was a year younger than me, but people say who was the best player you’ve played with, and obviously I came through the academy with Matty, and he was a genius footballer,” he added.
The Reds boss had special advice for the youngsters. “If any young people are listening and have the chance to look at Matt’s 100 greatest goals, that is an extraordinary video of outstanding goals,” Parkinson said. Le God is a Southampton legend and one of the few players to score 100+ goals in the Premier League era. His trophy cabinet may look empty, but his incredible goals and 16 years with the Saints earned him the name Le God from the fans.
Wrexham will now be looking to end their pre-season on a positive note. As the season edges closer, the discourse is centered around Parkinson and his ability to lead team’s in promotion charges.
