“Cleats to the Nuts Every Time” – Ryan Reynolds Had a Brilliant Response When Asked About Soccer’s Major Violation

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are two of the most loved individuals in the sports universe. The celebrity duo took over the Welsh soccer side in 2020. Since then, Reynolds’ growth and success at the club have been impeccable.

He has managed to also garner a massive chunk of Wrexham AFC’s audience from America. However, this journey wouldn’t have been easy enough initially. The simple reason is that the Deadpool star came from a non-soccer background.

In Welcome to Wrexham, the Canadian actor confessed that he is more of an NFL fan. The fans have always wondered if Ryan Reynolds actually understands the game.

A few months ago, GQ invited both the Wrexham AFC co-owners to a funny and unique interview. The purpose of that interview was basically to test their soccer knowledge. The fans were also eager to know how much their favorite soccer club owners had learned over the last two years. It was honestly a test about their soccer IQ and also their presence of mind during soccer games.

Both the co-owners had cue cards placed by their side. Either of them took turns asking each other questions. Rob McElhenney asks, “Give an example of a foul that would result in a straight red card”. Without any hesitation, Reynolds assertively responds, “Spike to the nuts. Cleats to the nuts everytime”. McElhenney was in complete agreement straightaway. He responded, “That would do it”.

Other basic soccer questions like, ‘How long can a goalkeeper hold the ball?’, ‘Who is called the gaffer?’, ‘the difference between a direct and an indirect free kick’ was also part of the game. Surprisingly, both Hollywood stars seemed extremely prepared for the quiz. The fans were also delighted to know that the Hollywood duo had taken efforts to learn the sport.

The Welsh soccer side was going through a tough time after the COVID pandemic. Wrexham was having a hard time with its finances considering its financial position over the years. It’s their rich soccer history that attracted the Hollywood duo. It’s safe to say that the third-oldest soccer club in the world has been shining since the takeover. Wrexham AFC almost won promotion to League Two in the first season itself.

However, they couldn’t get through after they succumbed to Grimsby Town in the playoffs. But Wrexham AFC came back even stronger this season. After having a dream run in the English FA Cup, Reynolds’ side is battling with Notts County for automatic promotion. After heartbreakingly losing to Sheffield United in the FA Cup, the fans were obviously sad but they urged the Canadian actor to keep his main focus on winning the Vanarama National League.
