Lionel Messi has surprisingly received the support of the same individual, he had an ugly altercation with at the FIFA World Cup 2022. That player is none other than the Dutch striker Wout Weghorst, who recently came forward to defend the 36-year-old and the Argentina squad against the claims made by his own coach, Louis van Gaal.
A few months ago, Louis van Gaal voiced his opinion that Argentina’s triumph in the World Cup was predetermined. He went as far as suggesting that the players from Argentina were given preferential treatment during their encounter with the Netherlands. As for Weghorst, he offered a contrasting perspective.

The forward then delved into the specifics of the quarter-final match between the Netherlands and Argentina. He recounted, “We equalized in the tenth minute of stoppage time with a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. If it were the other way around, the referee wouldn’t have given that free kick.”
At last, he further added, “In the end, they deserved to win the World Cup.” This statement may come as a s surprise to many particularly given their heated altercation after the quarter-final match. The clash between the two players went viral, with Messi telling Weghorst “Que Mira Bobo,” which translates to “What are you looking at you fool?”
It seems like on the first anniversary of Lionel Messi’s World Cup victory, many are once again praising his extraordinary achievement. Before Weghorst’s statement, a French soccer legend also commended the Inter Miami star’s remarkable performances on the grandest stage.
