Al Nassr officially ends its 2023–24 season on a disappointing note. The Knights of the Najd lost the King Cup of Champions final against Al Hilal on penalties, marking a trophyless campaign for them. As the news spreads regarding Luis Castro and Co.’s defeat, the internet isn’t sparing skipper Cristiano Ronaldo, who was seen crying while lying on the ground.
Within the first 7 minutes, Al Hilal dominated against Al Nassr, as Aleksander Mitrovic scored the opening goal for the Blue Waves. Despite continuous efforts from Luis Castro’s side to find an equalizer, they faced setbacks. One such moment occurred when Ronaldo attempted a spectacular bicycle kick from a cross, only to hit the post. Unfortunately, Al Nassr was reduced to 10 men near the hour mark as David Ospina was sent off while attempting to level the scoreline.
The game saw another twist when Al Hilal’s defender, Ali Albulayhi, received a red card in the 87th minute, leveling the number of players on the field. Taking advantage of this, Al Nassr equalized a minute later through substitute Ayman Yahya, pushing the match into extra time. However, Al Hilal’s fortunes took a turn for the worse as Kalidou Koulibaly was also sent off before the final whistle, reducing them to 9 men. Despite efforts in extra time, neither team could break the deadlock, leading to a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, both Ruben Neves and Alex Telles missed their kicks, leaving the score tied at 4-4. However, in the seventh round, an Al Hilal player scored to make it 5-4, and man of the match Yassine Bounou saved Al Nassr’s shot, securing the victory for Jorge Jesus and his team. As Al Hilal marched towards the podium, Ronaldo was seen crying, which forced the soccer world to react.
Emotional Cristiano Ronaldo not spared by netizens over King Cup of Champions loss against Al Hilal
It’s understandable to see Cristiano Ronaldo unable to hide his emotions; after all, he is human. However, even in such times, netizens aren’t letting up on the Real Madrid icon, particularly regarding how Yassine Bounou overshadowed the Portuguese skipper.
Today’s performance from Bounou reminds us of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It was exactly the same way Ronaldo reacted to Portugal being knocked out during the quarter-finals against Morocco.

During Real Madrid’s days, CR7 scored 4 against Bono in Los Blancos’ 6-3 win over Girona. After the match, Cristiano Jr. had even took a sly dig at the goalkeeper. But today, the table seems to have turned.

Ronaldo should feel lucky that Morocco isn’t a European nation. The 39-year-old would have witnessed a Deja vu in the impending UEFA Euros if Portugal had been drawn against the North African side. After all, it’s the Moroccan who has an edge over the Portuguese now.

There you go—another bad day in the office for Cristiano Ronaldo. There’s not much he can do now, and perhaps the skipper should take a break to recharge before making a strong comeback next season. Until then, we’ll let Al Hilal enjoy the glory of their second trophy.
