Are the USWNT's Olympic celebrations overshadowing the real work needed for the 2027 World Cup?

The upcoming friendlies for the USWNT will somewhat be an Olympic Victory Tour to showcase their achievements. Think of it as the Gold Over America Tour by Simone Biles in gymnastics. However, Emma Hayes is built differently. No time to slack ladies and gentlemen. Get to work and impress her because her eyes lay on the 2027 Women’s World Cup. We can see what the USWNT is made of with Hayes introducing fresh faces to the squad. But Mallory Swanson believes celebrations happen, yes. But they need to keep building.

Usually, the USWNT has a tour to showcase skills to the fans. They will place Iceland twice and Argentina in the upcoming friendlies on October 24th, 27th, and 30th. Swanson appeared in the latest podcast episode of Futbol W to discuss the future of USWNT and their targets for friendly matches. She wants to have fun and win the game. Talk about elite mentality!

Mallory Swanson expressed, “I think it can be both at the same time. And I think that’s what’s happening. So, we have only had one day here so far. But I think that obviously, it was a huge achievement. We’re back together for the first time. But I also think that there is work to be done. We always wanna try to improve and grow and evolve into the team that we wanna be. So, I think doing the celebrating and then also the work that needs to be done at the same time is kind of the idea.”

After the upcoming friendlies, Emma Hayes will set her squad up for the next major friendly – England! The English side didn’t take part in the Olympics due to various other reasons, and they remained the stern test. The team coached by Sarina Wiegman won the Euros in 2022, to the delight of the English fans.

But, a clash between the USWNT and England on November 30th will raise the roof. It’s the mother of all tests for the side. Yet, with Mallory Swanson approaching her 100th cap, things look rosy in the English camp.
