Things have been under heavy observation regarding the case of former Brazilian player Dani Alves in Spain. Notably, Alves is currently in prison for being accused of sexually assaulting a woman. The player could not get out, and now reports suggest that the former Barcelona star has plans to head back to Brazil.
Alves has been under police custody since January 2023 and was reportedly trying for bail. However, this seems to take a toll on his health, as reports also suggest that he is being treated for mental health struggles. A former inmate of the same prison in Barcelona expressed his concerns by stating, “Dani Alves is depressed and has been placed in an anti-suicide program. He has also been telling people that as soon as he is provisionally free, he will go on the run to Brazil.”

The player was denied a break for the same reasons of potentially escaping jurisdiction. And now even the public prosecutor claims to keep a tight watch on Alves, as the chances of him leaving the nation could be high due to his influence. The prosecutor, according to TV Azteca, said, “Alves’ soccer wealth is very high. He is one of the best players in history. He still has economic capacity or friends who have it. We insist that Brazil has no extradition agreement. Now that he is so close to a possible conviction, the risk of flight is much higher for us,” citing the help he has access to.
On the other hand, Alves reportedly received assistance from his former Brazilian teammate Neymar earlier. Neymar’s father had reportedly sent $164,000, the penalty demanded for the damage claimed. Apart from that, Dani also appointed Gustavo Xisto, a senior lawyer for Neymar Sr.’s companies, as an attorney-in-fact and removed his ex-wife, Dinorah Santana, from managing his assets. Moreover, Dani faced his trial on February 7th.

Dani Alves denies charges of assault on woman
If convicted, Dani Alves could face a term of nine years in prison, while the opposition lawyers want 12 years. The decision is expected in March, but Alves, during the trial, denied forcing the woman and using violence. Dani reportedly said, “If she wanted to leave, she could have left. She was not obligated to be there.” It was claimed that the former PSG defender consumed a considerable amount of alcohol that day.

Meanwhile, the inmate also said that the second-most decorated player in soccer would definitely leave for Brazil if he got a chance. However, it is still uncertain whether or not the court will grant him bail.
