With 8X Increase in Value, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ Miraculously Lifted the City Economically

Wrexham AFC is seemingly grateful to have owners like Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. As of today, the duo’s acquisition has significantly brought immense fame and success that also not only benefitted the Welsh club but also the small town. Interestingly, their idea of documenting the whole process also opened a number of doors for the city.

The owners added a Hollywood tinge to the soccer club that played a big role in turning their fortunes. While a lot of things have driven the club to success, their docuseries, Welcome to Wrexham has also done the majority of heavy lifting.

Welcome to Wrexham hands over a major boost to the city’s economy

Welcome to Wrexham has been one of the highest grossing sports documentaries. The impact of the show goes beyond financial success, as it has also brought about a significant transformation within the entire community. This comes from the mouths of the local people of Wrexham, who heaped praise on the series.

Wayne Jones, one of the residents of the town owns a local pub, The Turf, and revealed the impact the documentary has left on the community. While speaking to Hola, he said, “It’s sort of difficult to describe but economically [Welcome to Wrexham] has been a huge boost because we get a lot of tourism now from North America and Australia, and various people from the UK.”

Interestingly, Jones’ pub which is just outside the Racecourse Ground, has often featured in the series, that has also received six Emmy nominations. “And locally, it’s also had such a good positive vibe on the attitudes of the people that actually live here because the soccer team is doing well and so the local economy is doing well; what Ryan and Rob have done in such a short amount of time is miraculous,” he added.

It seems the documentary outdid more than its job. The docuseries opened the doors of opportunity for the whole Wrexham community. Indeed, it’s quite remarkable how the town is blooming due to Reynolds and McElhenney’s soccer club. Likewise, the owners also saw an 8X growth of the club.

Welsh club endures an eight-fold growth

A lot of things have played their part in Wrexham’s growth chart. Be it the presence of Hollywood owners, winning the National League, or the documentary. Many will be surprised to know all such things have resulted in the club witnessing an eight-fold growth. This comes from the mouth of Red Dragons’ CEO, Fleur Robinson.

She revealed, “It’s fantastic how the owners have invested in the club and the community. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​It’s amazing to be a part of it, and the interest and growth has been incredible. The club has seen turnover rise from £2.5m to £20m.” Robinson also highlighted the owner’s mission to develop stadiums and increase attendance. She also revealed their ultimate ambition, to reach the Premier League. Indeed, the owners seem quite serious about taking the club to the next level.
