Cristiano Ronaldo might be known for stimulating a revolution in the Saudi Pro League in 2023. But the player also comes with a hefty price tag, apart from the risk of expecting heavy standards from the team. Hiring the star is not everyone’s cup of tea, as he is one of the most popular athletes of all time. The player joined Al Nassr for a whopping $200 million per year, but in a recent sensational revelation, his former club experienced a financial loss of approximately $88.8 million in today’s value. It was deemed one of the highest losses in the last decade.

No one can doubt the work ethic of the Portuguese captain, but market dynamics work differently. However, his former club, Juventus, had to face the brunt of the transfer market after Ronaldo’s early exit.

Juventus signed Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese footballer, for a record-breaking $117 million, making him a valuable addition to the most successful team in Italian Serie A. However, a recent report by CIES showed that the club faced the 5th highest transfer loss for a player in the last decade. But this stat is pointed towards the players who were not a part of the clubs’ own academies. And notably, Ronaldo cut short a year of his contract with the Turin-based team to leave for Manchester United in 2021.

Juventus had to sell Ronaldo to Manchester United in August 2021 for a deal worth $27 million, and this transfer proved to be an expensive one for the Italian giants. Approximately $88 million was determined as the overall loss in today’s monetary terms. Moreover, the cumulative loss Juventus has been estimated to incur is around $269 million because of the transfer of non-academy players in the last decade.

Ronaldo’s signing initially fetched a lot of commercial success for the Bianconeri. The club made a deal with Adidas for kit sponsorship worth $395 million, along with a $49 million increase with shirt sponsor Jeep. Additionally, Ronaldo made a pretty successful attempt at the Italian Serie A.

Therefore, the player could make another year’s attempt to take the club to a UEFA Champions League trophy. However, the former UCL winner will have a similar responsibility to take Al Nassr to their first AFC Champions League title.
