Lamine Yamal really hit it out of the park for Spain in the UEFA Euros 2024. While the teenage superstar played a key role in helping La Roja win the prestigious trophy after a 12-year exile, the FC Barcelona prodigy is wanted again. As the Spaniards gear up for the Paris Olympics 2024, the question looms over whether Yamal represents his beloved nation in France.

It is only logical to have thought that the 17-year-old, who celebrated his birthday last week, would be playing in the Summer games. Age is one factor, but it’s the sheer quality and domination he could have brought for Spain to win the gold. Unfortunately, his service for La Roja, at the moment, now extends within the Euros as Lamine Yamal is not going to play for Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This is because the teenager has rather urged to rest following his remarkable display in the recent European Championship. Instead, other players will get a chance to show their talent, as they basically couldn’t make the cut in Luis de la Fuente’s roster that flew to Germany. Additionally, Yamal’s domestic commitments with Barcelona can be considered one factor for his absence from Santi Denia’s 22-player squad.

Already, the Catalans are set to cut the ribbon to the 2024/25 season with new head coach Hansi Flick. The German tactician highly rates Yamal and would love to unite with him quickly. However, the Best Youngest Player in the Tournament recipient isn’t the only surprising name that didn’t make the cut.

Lamine Yamal is not the only surprising omission for the Paris Olympics trip

Aside from Lamine Yamal, the teenager’s fellow attacking partner, Nico Williams, will not fly to France. The Athletic Bilbao forward too has impressed in the Euro campaign, having notched 2 crucial goals and an assist. The 22 would be permitted to play for the team, but the idea to give him rest like Yamal remains the same.

Another omission is Pedri, who eventually saw his chances get trimmed after sustaining an injury during the Euros semifinals. But even if the Barcelona midfielder would have been fit, he would have been offered rest.

While these names won’t be seen at the Summer games, we might as well explore the final squad that head coach Santi Denia has chosen.
