Ever since Lionel Messi has arrived in America, it seems like he is breaking records and making history every other week. While last week saw La Pulga make history by being part of one of the most hyped MLS debuts of all time; this week has seen Leo force the MLS to make a moumental decision affecting all the clubs.
Minutes after his MLS debut, soccer journalists broke the news that Leo would be missing his next three matches for Inter Miami owing to International duties. This news came as a big blow to both Inter Miami and the MLS as they will suffer on and off-field losses with Messi’s absence. While now things are too late to change, the MLS is now planning to make a decision that will ensure that such an occurrence never happens again.

Last week after Messi’s spectacular MLS debut, the Argentine FA released their squad for the International friendly fixtures for the coming month. Unsurprisingly, La Pulga was amongst the first names on the squad. While this was a joyous occasion for Argentina fans; this was bad news for Inter Miami faithful as this meant Messi would miss at least three games for Miami.
Following this gigantic loss for the David Beckham-owned side, fans started questioning why MLS doesn’t follow suit like soccer leagues around the world and pause during International breaks. After all, this was seemingly the most logical action considering MLS is home to quality players today who are regular for National Teams around the world.
👀 Tata Martino dropped a bit of a news bomb regarding MLS not playing through FIFA’s international fixture dates:
“I have it understood that they are analyzing that for next year.
“It is probable that that will happen.”#InterMiamiCF #Messi𓃵 pic.twitter.com/bvZCiplNo5

Luckily for MLS fans, the league has heard their plea and is planning to act on it instantly. Ahead of Inter Miami’s pre-match press conference, coach Martino was quipped if he heard anything about MLS’ decision to pause the league. Much to the joy of everyone, the Argentine replied with positivity and revealed that the changes will be implemented from next year itself. “I have it understood that they are analyzing that for next year,” said the Miami gaffer. “It is probable that that will happen.”
While this is a positive move for the future, coach Martino will have a big Lionel Messi-sized hole to fill in the next three matches. As daunting as the challenge is, the Argentine is confident in his troops to step up in the soccer veteran’s absence.
With Lionel Messi set to miss the next 3 games; Coach Tata Martino is hopeful that Inter Miami will step up
Truth be said, no team can ever fill a Messi-shaped void in their team. Even a team like Barcelona to this date still struggles with his absence on the pitch. While Miami won’t have a like-for-like replacement for Messi, the least they can do is have faith in themselves and step up collectively. This will surely be a gigantic task for Miami players who will be playing without Messi for the first time in over a month.

Tata on the team learning to win without Messi:
"I think it's the first time we've played without Messi since the Cruz Azul match. We controlled the match for large portions. We needed to do this so we can believe that we can win without him." #InterMiamiCF

Coach Martino also acknowledged the same but iterated that the team can do nothing but believe in themselves and perform to their best. “I think it’s the first time we’ve played without Messi since the Cruz Azul match. We controlled the match for large portions. We needed to do this so we can believe that we can win without him,” said the gaffer in optimism.
