The soccer fraternity knows Jamie Carragher for his outspoken nature. Ever since the Liverpool icon took up the mantle of a sports pundit, he has not shied away from making his opinion known. However, it seems like not everyone is comfortable with what Carragher has to convey. Former PSG superstar Lionel Messi was less than pleased with the ex-English international. In a CBS broadcast, Carragher revealed that Messi, in reply to one of his statements, had texted him on Instagram, calling him a ‘donkey’.

Now, while Carragher’s fellow pundits did not discuss the reason behind the message, he had already opened up on the message from La Pulga. This story takes a deep dive into the conversation between the two stars, to find what urged Lionel Messi to label Jamie Carragher a ‘donkey’.

During one broadcast of CBS’ Champions League show, Carragher opened up on one message from Lionel Messi on Instagram. The Englishman revealed that Messi called him a donkey, eliciting a laugh from his fellow pundits.

Carragher stated, “Is it Spanish that they speak Argentinians? I’m just going to say the word he called me. I don’t understand. A ‘burro’, he called me a ‘burro’. I didn’t understand what it meant at first. But Abdo told me that the English version of the word was ‘donkey’.”

He added, “It was on Monday Night Football, and I got a private message on Instagram. From the man [Messi] himself. I will not be showing private messages, but he basically called me a donkey.”

Carragher was present alongside his regular partner in crimes on CBS’ Champions League broadcast. The duo on the show engaged in comparisons between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, prompting host Kate Abdo to mock the former Liverpool star.
